About
Saint George (مار جرجس) was built in the 19th century, beginning either in 1874 or 1886, taking many years to complete. It is the third Maronite church built in the village. It was enlarged in the1960’s. In 2010, it was restored, revealing its beautiful stone workmanship and marrying marble and stone.
Vibrant stained glass windows were installed as part of the renovation. Its steeple and bell tower is crowned with a cross that, when viewed from any angle, presents its four arms.
The church is dedicated to Saint George, a martyr who died during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian, in the 4th century. In the large icon behind the altar, St. George is represented in the traditional image of a knight slaying a dragon, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
